<itunes:subtitle>A weekly screencast on technology for teaching and learning</itunes:subtitle>
    <itunes:summary>Welcome to Teacher's Corner.

Teacher's Corner is a website created by a teacher (myself) for other teachers, for students and for everyone willing to learn. It provides you with interesting, captivating and sometimes entertaining lessons, tutorials and fully fledged courses on software, the internet and technology in general. I addition to that, another section of this website will offer short lessons snippets on learning English in the future. All this content is delivered in the popular screencast format. <br><br>
What can you expect to read on this website? Well, I intend to publish several kinds of articles:

1. Learning English: This is a future project and not online as of yet. I will publish short tutorial units here, ranging from grammar training to comments on language oddities. This section is mainly intended to help my (German) students learning English. But even if you are NOT one of my students, English is your first language and you speak English much better than me in everyday life you might still find those postings useful, as they are mainly about grammar - and grammar is something even native speakers readily forget over time.

2. Visual Helpdesk
Do you want to be a computer nerd? Do you want to take your computer skills to an otherworldly level? Then this is your place to be. In regular screencasts I will demonstrate cool applications or demonstrate technology backgrounds for Apple Macintosh and Windows. Some lessons might also be about school related topics. For example, I plan to produce a tutorial series on OpenOffice 2.0, the office suite the school I am working at uses in the Computer Science classes. To get to an overview on the available lessons got to the Visual Helpdesk section.

3. Tutorial movies on demand
Are you a developer? Would you like to include video tutorials on your website or your CD/DVD? If you are and do and if you like what you see on this website, feel free to contact me. I am sure we can get to a reasonably priced agreement. If you'd like to see an example of my work, head over to the Media Services section of this site. The tutorials mentioned there were produced and conceptualized by me. </itunes:summary>

In this episode I introduce you to FotoMagico, the powerful slideshow creation application.
FotoMagico is an easy-to-use application that allows you to create stunning slideshows to be displayed on almost any device imaginable. It's ease of use is rivaled only by Apple's iLife apps and yet it is far more powerful than those. It comes with complete iLife integration and cinema quality transitions.

Feedback wanted
I tried a different approach to screencasting in this episode: I wrote the complete script and read it into the microphone. After that I recorded and cut the video and matched those clips to the audio track. In previous lessons I spoke freely and didn't have a detailed script. Both methods have their pros and cons. Reading a complete script leads to more concise and elegant language but might be a bit fast and sterile. On the other hand, improvising the commentary and speaking freely slows down the tutorial's pace and sounds more personal as well as lively but will surely lead to more Uhms and Ahhs and even a few minor language flaws.
Teacher's Corner, Lesson 3: Crossword Forge

Welcome to the second episode of the Teacher's Corner Screencast.

In this episode I showcase Crossword Forge, an application designed to create crossword and word search puzzles for both, print and web. I'll show you how easy this application is to master and how you can create visually appealing documents in no time.

Known issues:
There are some minor flaws in this show. None of them is a showstopper, so I chose to publish the show anyway:
– Minor language flaws: If you find them: Please ignore them. If not: Never mind. ;-)
– A nasty typo in the outro - it should be conjunction instead of conjuntion.
– The sound quality has been improved considerably compared to the previous show, it is not perfect yet. The volume changes slightly from time to time.

Lesson 2: LEO, the online dictionary

Teacher's Corner, Lesson 2: Leo Online Dictionary

Welcome to the second episode of the Teacher's Corner Screencast.

In this episode I introduce you to LEO, an online dictionary that translates between German and English, German and French, and German and Spanish. You'll learn everything you need to know on how to handle LEO's web interface. Also, I'll cover several ways of integrating LEO with your favorite browser and with LaunchBar, a multi purpose utility for the Macintosh.

Known issues:
There are some minor flaws in this show. None of them is a showstopper, so I chose to publish the show anyway:
– Minor language flaws: If you find them: Please ignore them. If not: Never mind. ;-)
– Minor artifacts while recording. I am not quite sure why they are there, since they don't show up in the source clips I recorded with SnapZ Pro. Maybe Final Cut Pro has some compatibility issues with those source clips' format. I definitely have to look at this for the next show.
– Although the sound quality has been improved considerably compared to the previous show, it is not perfect yet. The volume changes slightly from time to time.

Please join the forum and tell me what you think of this show.

Download the show here

Welcome to the very first episode of the Teacher's Corner Screencast.

In this episode I introduce you to Journler, a journaling application. Journler can store, organize and find almost any kind of information in an extremely intuitive and yet very powerful way. This is what makes it so useful for teachers and learners alike. You will learn how to:
– input and import information and files
– organize data by creating folders and smart folders
– work with multimedia elements
– find information stored in Journler

Known issues:
There have been some technical problems throughout the production of the show:
– On some parts of the movie, the mouse pointer looks weird. This is due to my recording application, SnapZ Pro from Ambrosia Software. The app wasn't 100% compatible with my Intel Mac at the time of the recording.
– In one section of the movie I demonstrate the recording features of Journler. However, when playing back the recordings there is no sound. This is, again, due to SnapZ Pro. Both issues have been resolved by Ambrosia Software by now and won't be an issue in future recordings.
– On some sections of the movie the sound quality isn't perfect. Again, this problem has been resolved by now and won't be an issue in future episode.
